Three Injured in Lagos Motor Crash, As Fire Guts Electronic Shop
No fewer than three persons were fatally injured on Tuesday in a motor crash involving an articulated truck and three commercial buses, at Falgbems Bus Stop, inward Oshodi.
According to the General Manager, Lagos
State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Michael Akindele, who
confirmed the incident, no life was however lost.
He said, “The agency received an alert
through the control room on a road traffic accident involving an
articulated truck carrying a container and other three commercial yellow
buses at Falgbems bus stop, inward Oshodi.
“This prompted immediate activation of the agency’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) to the incident scene.
“Preliminary investigation carried out
by the ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that the accident
involved a truck with registration number AKD 279 XR and three comercial
buses with registration numbers , BDG 721 XJ, GGE 759 XN and KJA 25 XH.
“Other agencies at the scene included
LASTMA, Nigeria Police, FRSC. The accident was as a result of illegal
stopping of the commercial bus drivers to pick passengers on the
expressway. Three people sustained serious injuries.
“One person was taken to the hospital by
passers-by before the arrival of the ERT, while the other two were
given first aid treatment by LASEMA medical team and LASAMBUS before
being taken to the trauma centre for further treatment, by the Lagos
State Ambulance Services.
“We advise motorists to avoid reckless
driving, over-speeding and also adhere to all traffic rules and
regulations to avoid incidents such as this.”
In another development, LASEMA responded
to a fire alert at New Garage, Bariga, that gutted an electronics shop
and destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
Akindele who also confirmed this said,
“The agency received an alert via the control room about a fire incident
at 43 Shogbamu Street, New Garage, Bariga, Lagos.
“This prompted immediate activation of
the Agency’s Emergency Response Team, Lagos State Fire Service from
Ilupeju and Ikeja Fire Stations, Lagos State Ambulance Service and
Nigeria Police Force to the scene.
“Preliminary investigation carried out by the ERT at the scene of the
incident revealed that the inferno was caused by an electrical surge
from an electronics shop.”
