BET Awards 2016: Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar open ceremony with gripping performance
Beyonce took fans by surprise with her opening performance featuring Kendrick Lamar at the The 2016 BET Awards on Sunday, June 26, 2016.
The award ceremony which held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los
Angeles, USA saw the American singer who was not announced with the
performance line up of the night take the stage to perform her song
titled ‘Freedom’.
In the usual Beyonce format of presenting
thrilling performances, her set began with her dancers in tribal
attire walking through the venue towards the stage where the
award-winning performer stood on a water filled stage, ready to
express her message of ‘Freedom’ through her strong vocals.
As she
performed the song off her sixth studio album ‘Lemonade’, her set
was backed by energetic choreography, fire and water. The spectacle
also featured American rapper Kendrick Lamar who rose up from below
the stage to deliver his lines.
The end of Beyonce’s display had
the crowd on their feet cheering, screaming and smiling.
It was
a winning night for the Queen Bee as she took home the award for
Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. Her ‘Formation’ single also won her
Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award and the Centric Award.
In the
meantime, Nigerian rapper Falz won BET Viewer's Choice Best
International Act Award while South African DJ Black Coffee won the
Best International Act - Africa Award. BET africa winners.
