CCT warns against video recording of Saraki's trial
The
Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar has
issued warnings to individuals recording and posting on the Internet
video clips of the proceedings of Senate President Bukola Saraki's trial
to desist or face the full weight of the law.
Justice
Umar said it is unlawful for anyone to come in with electronic devices
with the intention of taking clips of events in the Tribunal. He urged
anyone with that intention to desist else the full weight of law will
fall on such persons.
He
said he will later discuss with the counsels to both parties if it is
in the interest of the general public for the proceedings of the
Tribunal to be broadcasted life. "If they all agree on this,
broadcasting houses will be invited to come and cover the proceedings
and that will help to change the mind of the populace that the bench is
being bias", Justice Umar said.
It
would be recalled that video clips of Justice Umar shouting at one of
the counsels to Senate President Bukola Saraki who moved a motion for
the Judge to disqualify himself from the trial went viral on the
Internet last week.
