Edo community exco lauds NPDC, flays EDSOPADEC

Newly elected Itsekiri community leaders of Ajoki town in Edo State have unanimously pledged to commit their energies towards improving the community socio-economic challenges by constant negotiations with the local and state government as well as corporate organization in the process of fast tracking various developmental projects in the area.

The pledges were made by the respective executive of the reconstituted Ajoki community, amongst whom were the President-General, Mr. Smart Kekene, The Youth President, Mr. Ajatiton Isaac and the Woman leader, Mrs. Esther Koma at the swearing in ceremony of the new executive in Ajoki community, Edo State. In a welcome address, the community President Mr. Smart Kekene, while expressing gratitude for the support the elders and youths gave the community during its periods of tribulations, enjoined them to remain steadfast in embracing peace, in the pursuit of making Ajoki a mega community in Edo State. Mr. Kekene enumerated problems and prospects of the community assuring that all will be tackled headlong, especially in the areas of the dwindling standard of education in Ajoki, occasioned by inadequate teachers and learning facilities as well as the abandoned community health centre that has been drawn to the attention of Edo State Ministry of Health. While commending the cordial relationship between the community and Nigerian Petroleum Development Company NPDC, he lamented the non-employment of Ajoki sons and daughters into the companies in the area and as well berated the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Development Commission – EDSOPADEC for not making its impact felt in Ajoki, especially in areas of abandoned projects and failure to provide skill acquisition for the youths and women. The Youth Chairman, Mr. Ajatiton Isaac, expressed gratitude for the support given them to succeed in carrying out meaningful projects in the community during his first tenure, enumerating some of them as the completion of the youth secretariat, the layout of the community and also ensuring payment of three years’ salary of teachers and providing borehole water for the community. Representing the women, Ajoki new community women leader, Mrs. Esther Koma, observed that efforts made in the past by her predecessor to ameliorate the plight of the women-folks were unsuccessful, promising to effect the necessary change by engaging in dialogue with the new executive and the youth association. While bemoaning the marginalization of women by the past administration, Mrs. Koma contended that there is a change in the offing by the inclusion of women in the new administration, pointing out that the era of not being carried along is over, as she further stressed that women can execute contract jobs, qualified girls can work in oil locations, while others could be engaged in catering as well as supplies, as obtained in other host communities of oil exploration. Among the newly elected executive of the Community Trust were the Vice-President, Mr. Steve Osuasor, the Trust Secretary, Mr. Augustine Inomisaghan and Youth Vice Chairman and Secretary, Mr. Omasan Joseph and Mr. Otumara Joseph.
